It is important to visit your doctor if your symptoms do not clear after you have tried to remedy things yourself. Listening to your symptoms and their severity I do not thibk that a simple acid neutralizing product like Gaviscon or magnesium trisilicate will be sufficiant to alleviate your symptoms. Firstly try ranitidine. Ask the pharmacist for their own brand as it will be cheaper than Zantac. The drug works by sitting on receptors in your stomach and therefore stops the vagus nerve stimulating the receptors into producing hydrochloric acid that at presunt is causing you so much discomfort. If this does not work then you could try Losec which is a proton pump inhibitor and prevents acid production to a greater extent than ranitidine. However whilst ranitidine is well tolerated Losec can cause unwanted side effects in some people like excess wind and and loose bowel motions. Try ranitidine first and see if you get some relief and make an appointment to see your G.P. He or she will probably want to see if you have the very common bacterial infection./ This can be determined either by passing a fibre optic tube down inro your stomach and whilst the doctor is there taking a look at your stomach lining he can take a small sample of the stomach lining which can be sent to the lab for analysis or the test can be done by taking sample of your breath. The kit that does this is available on N.H.S. prescription. If the test is positive then the doctor can prescibe a combination of two kinds of antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitor. After your course of treatment your symptoms of sickness and excess acid will disappear. If you do not have the infection you will have to stay on the proton pump inhibitor at a maintanance dose for some time. It is very important that you get this [properly under control because not only are your symptoms spoiling your life there is a distinct possibilty that you could go on to develope a stomach ulcer which is excruiating and also dangerous should it perferate.

Being overweight is a prime cause of this condition especially when you bend over to do things like tie your shoe lace or pick up items. Suggest yo get an appointment at the doc or hospital and they can take a look down there to see if there is a hidden problem.

Have you been the docs?
The bacteria mentioned above is helicobactor, which can be picked up when on hols and can cause nausea & stomach upsets, best to get checked.
I find that gaviscon is the best thing for acid reflux, but as a long term fix, the doc can prescribe zantac (ranitadine). If taken regularly for a month it can stop acid symptoms. If it still occurs after that, it may be best to be subscribed some sort of preventative such as losec.
I wouldn't say you being slightly overweight would have much effect. Try avoiding citrus fruit & drinks, fizzy drinks & coffee.
Hope it helps

Have you been tested for coeliac(celiac)disease. some of the symptoms you describe are very similar to what i used to experience. Since i have been gluten free i have been a whole different person. You can have a blood test at your docs and also get info from the dietician there. Good Luck.
