Acid reflux whilst running?
…I run quite frequently on a treadmill or outside, and would class myself as having an above average fitness level.
When I run, after about 5 minutes I get acid reflux (or GERD), which causes a mild burning sensation in my chest, it doesn’t really go away until I finish running.
It’s a mild pain, but it is still a pain nonetheless, something I can cope with, but I don’t want to.
So does anybody else have this? If so can they recommend things to cut out of my diet? Or a cure to take while running?
NB: I do not exercise too soon after eating, sometimes this happens in the morning, before I have eaten or drunk anything, as I find I exercise better on an empty stomach.

• Get rid of drinks that have caffeine, like tea, coffee, and soda. Too much of these will cause the LES to relax and let the acid to return into the esophagus.

I have GERD also and I buy an over the counter (OTC) medication called Gaviscon that works very well for me
About 15 years ago I had a surgery called Nissen that completely removed my Reflux where they go in and tighten up the Esophagus and it was great ,right up until about 6 months ago, now the surgery has worn off !
I was getting the same problem up to about two week ago. This may sound daft but I go to the loo about half hour before going out and then drink a glass of water at the door. I know ! but I haven’t had the pain again (yet). I run an average of 30-35 mile a week. I’m 47 and running the Wellingborough 5 on Sunday.
