This is supposed to diagnose underlying causes of IBS from a sample of your hair roots. Costs around £70. Sounds very unlikely, but is there any chance it might work??

My cat has irritable bowel syndrome and the vet has suggested Hills dry food for sensitive cats as a way forward to combat his diarrhoea. I just wondered if anyone else had any experience with cats with IBS and what they feed them as im worried my vet may be advising that brand as its the only one they sell! Price isn’t important, it just needs to be super bland! Many thanks!

I have had right sided abdominal pain for over 5 months which is severe at times and other times tolerable. Sometimes the pain is a stabbing pain and sometimes an intense gripping pain. I dont have any change in my bowel habit or diarrheoa. Dr Says it isn’t IBS. Ultrasound scan showed no gallstones (its lower than this anyway). Colorectal surgeon has requested a barium enema which he is sure will not sure anything. He thinks there is a problem with my caecum - how can this be resolved?

I have been diagnosed with IBS about 6 years ago and I am intolerant to a lot of foods. I recently started swimming regularly (3 times/week) and saw big improvement in all my symptoms. Any idea why?
Is it only psycosomatic? Thanks x
Sorry, IBS = irritable bowel syndrome
Nobody really knows what that is, but GPs tend to diagnose it when they haven’t got a clue what’s wrong with you!
I didn’t intend to insult neither the patients or the doctors. But it is frustrating to see that doctors talk about a syndrome they don’t really know about. For example, I noticed my symptoms get worse just before my period, I asked my GP and she said that was new to her. But later I found publications supporting my observations….
I have changed about 3-4 doctors, before you ask! One gastroenterologist here suggested psycotherapie and / or hypnosis….
Could be interesting, but would it help??
Hi Nancy
thanks for the thought!
Yes, I know I am not celiac and that I am intolerant to lactose and a lot of other things (long list…). The problem is that it is almost impossible to avoid all these foods as some are hidden (like spices, E-numbers, etc) so inevitably sometimes the symptoms pop up again. This list tends to grow every fem months, too!
I know I have to avoid these items of food, my question was related to why is swimming helpful, as physiologically i couldn’t make a link.
Thanks for your help, anyway!
