Does this sound like Crohn’s disease?
Over the last few months I have lost about half a stone.
Today I have been needing the toilet but only a small amount of mucus is coming out. I have looked up weight loss and mucus and I found stuff about Crohn’s. I don’t understand, what is Crohn’s, what are the symptoms etc?
Also, I have been having mild hip pain for a few months even though I am only 18. Could this be related?
Thanks!

I have Ulcerative Colitis, which is Crohn’s disease’s partner in crime. I was diagnosed with Inflammatory bowel Disease about a year and a half ago. I started out with the same, mild symptoms. Mucous, some pain and a little bit of blood.
You definitely need to go to a Gastroentorologist and catch it early on. Because i waited too long, and I got extremely and shockingly ill.
Crohn’s disease is an Autoimmune disease, that causes the body to attacks itself. Crohn’s disease affects the G.I. tract, and it is chronic. Meaning you will have it for the rest of your life. some symptoms are bleeding, pain, nausea, weight loss, anemia, arthritis, eye problems, weird sores in your mouth, mucous, distended abdomen.
I, too have IBD, and I strongly advise you to see a doctor and get a colonoscopy/endoscopy.
Good luck with everything.
And if you have further questions, you can email me.
I’m totally open to sharing stories.
Perry you CANNOT use yahoo to make a diagnosis. You must attend you GP for a consultation to discuss your symptoms…you could have anything realistically.
I think that you should go to your doctor to discuss this, if you have lost half a stone in the past month unintentionally then you need to get this seen to. I would advise against trying to self-diagnose on the internet, it can really freak you out. There are many symptoms for crohn’s disease, weight loss and mucus are only 2, but weight loss and mucus could also be due to other things so don’t jump to conclusions. People might answer and say yes or no on here but we can’t say for sure, go to your doctor and get checked out (I’d advise you to not mention that you’d looked up the symptoms online and think it’s crohn’s though!)
Book an appointment tomorrow if you are worried, take care.
Crohn’s is when your immune system is over active in your digestive system. It mostly causes inflammation and scar tissue build up over time. There is usually tenderness and pain along with the other things you say. You could also have IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome which is all the pain and running to the bathroom without the auto immune problem.
Good Luck
I’ve got crohns and left it far too long before i went to the doctors. By the time i was diagnosed i’d lost 3 stone and was malnurished and fainting all the time. Don’t end up like me! I also had really bad pain in my knees so your hip pain could well be related. Have a look on the NACC website for more info about it. but go to your docs anyway, whether it’s crohns or not you need to get it sorted. Good luck x
You must see a doctor as soon as possible. As to the actual diagnosis, it is very difficult to say without asking you detailed questions. i would not come to alarming conclusions till you are seen by a specialist. Most likely, you will have to undergo a colonoscopy.
