Doxycycline isn’t the best drug around for acne, it has been known to produce a lot of gastrointestinal disturbances as a common side effect..if your having symptoms, ask your GP for Minocycline..this is far better with less side effects.
That happens with any antibiotic. Take those DanActiv shot things after taking the antibiotic. It helps a lot.
Try taking any pro-biotic like yogurt with active yogurt cultures, the pro-biotic smoothies, etc. See if that helps.
I think you ought to talk to your doctor about this. There are medications you can take for the reflux. Can you take the doxycycline with food or milk to see if that helps?
Another thing, don’t eat anything at least three or four hours before bedtime. That might help you out, too.
Hope you feel better soon.
I have already commented in response to past questions, that although it seems to be used a fair bit for acne, it would not have been a drug I would chose. It was never routinely used either in General Practice nor by consultant dermatologists in the West of Scotland, to the best of my knowledge.
It has a number of side effects not shared by other similar tetracyclines, firstly it can produce photo-sensitivity reactions and secondly it has to be taken on a full stomach or it tends to produce heartburn and sometimes abdominal pain. Even taken with food it can still produce gastrointestinal upset.
Minocycline was the first choice of many GPs and dermatologists for years, but is often now replaced by lymocycline, this tends to be at least as effective and is, to be frank, a lot cheaper.
I also hope not to see either tetracycline, nor oxytetracyline used, though I note from questions that they still seem to be. It has to be taken clear of food and interacts with both milk and antacids. It is twice a day, which is a disadvantage, and finally when it is used it is often prescribed in doses of 250mgs twice daily, which is half the dose actually required to produce any decent level of efficacy!
I suspect you gastrointestinal symptoms will not resolve while you are on this drug and it would be best to request a change from your GP.
Doxycycline is used to treat bacterial infections, including pneumonia and other respiratory tract infections; Lyme disease; acne; infections of skin, genital, and urinary systems; and anthrax (after inhalational exposure). It is also used to prevent malaria. Doxycycline is in a class of medications called tetracycline antibiotics. It works by preventing the growth and spread of bacteria.
Doxycycline may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
