The 50% who get worse get reduced symptoms on low fibre diets, unfortunately these are not healthy. Colpermin (high dose peppermint oil) is recommended, however I have rarely seen it do anything but give the patient heartburn. Anti-spasmodics like merbeverine reduce spasm, I find amitripylline, which works as a smooth muscle relaxant, to be the most consistent drug.
