Fresh ground coffee, why do i not get heartburn drinking it?
For years i have got terrible heartburn after drinking a mug of any instant coffee, two weeks ago i bought some decent fresh ground coffee to percolate in a plunger jug, not only doe’s it taste beautiful but i do not get any heartburn, also i do not get that caffeine rush to the brain, i also find i have slept much better. Any suggestions why.

Instant coffee is highly processed. You may be highly sensitive to the chemicals that are used in processing.
When that coffee is ground up and reformulated to make instant coffee, the smaller particle size can make some compounds more soluble and therefore more likely to irritate a susceptible stomach lining.
One of the many reasons that ground coffee is "smoother" is that the harsher chemicals present in coffee (like tannic acid) are less soluble therefore you cannot taste them as much and you don’t react to them as much.
Another for instance: If you took a caffeine pill with the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee it would have a quicker and harsher effect than if you drank the cup of coffee. Its like the difference between drinking straight vodka and a mixed drink.
Have I made any sense?
Glad you have found a good way to drink your morning JOE!
