Is there a link between IBS and low blood sugar?
I have IBS and have had a really bad episode of IBS over the past few days. It seems to have passed now but I am now feeling shaky, dizzy and light headed and wonder if I have low blood sugar. Do you think the two things are linked or seperate and what can I do about this? Thanks!

Hi there I also have IBS & while it may not be connected–I agree with the other poster–if you have been without good food for a long time–then yea you could be suffering from low blood sugar which is just a symptom of all those other issues.
A way to reduce the way to have low blood sugar issues is to eat something with a high fibre content such as some brown rice & or oatmeal. Check out this site too which has some ideas.

hi mate i have been a sufferer of IBS and all the complications that are usual very nasty, if you feel unwell you should call your doctor in the next day their open or if its really bad then call the call out or after hours service.
the complications can be, sickness, diarrhoea, vomiting, pain often very violent in the stomach and intestines, and other issues.
it does not cause low blood sugar unless you have had a bout of sickness over days or the usual 10 to 14 days of not eating.
I have IBS and when i get bad attacks of it i find it really hard to eat, so i usually don’t eat near as much as i should. It might be that over the time you’ve not eaten as much as you would usually, so it would make you feel like that after.
Try drinking things with a bit of sugar in like lemonade or cups of tea, and if you find it difficult to eat much (like i do with my IBS) just eat little and often of foods with lots of vitamins and that in. I have tablets too to help my IBS sometimes, if it gets worse try talking to your doctor about it.
Hope this helped
This is an interesting q. I have Type 2 diabetes, med. controlled (most of the time). Some years ago now I was diagnosed with what they called bowel spasm (they didn’t actually say it was IBS) but I was given medication for the spasms. This hasn’t bother me for ages. However over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been having diarrhoea, needing the toilet quite urgently (which when out in the car, has been a problem) and bloating. So I’m wondering if the two are anyway connected. And I was recently started on an extra medication for the diabetes which shot my blood sugars way down so I have a dizzy, fainting episode. The doc. took me off the new medication immediately and I’m maintaining a reasonable blood sugar level. But what’s the diarrhoea about?
This doesn’t strictly answer your q. but I think, like me, it’s time for a GP visit? Much as basically I truly don’t want to know!!!
