IBS isn’t easily diagnosed. Really awful lower abdominal pains doesn’t always mean there is a physiological problem, like muscle spasms or ulcers in the intestine. The pain that is often called IBS can by psychosomatic. If any of these ‘herbal remedies’ appear to be working really well, then it’s probably psychosomatic. Thank you very much, Mr. Placebo Effect.
If the pain is serious then a professional doctor from an accredited medical school should be consulted.
anything with peppermint in it!
and plenty of fibre
My partner has IBS on and off, and also gets very bloated. He takes natural charcoal tablets.
My husband takes peppermnt oil pills when he gets it and it works for him.
Fiber and probiotics….like acidophilus are great for keeping flora balance in the gut but probably one of the most overlooked supplements is Magnesium.
I agree, IBS if often hard to diagnose and you have to be careful and go slowly with any supplements.
Many people tend to be somewhat deficient of magnesium and it can help calm the nervous system as well as relax the muscles of the gut.
If you take it, find a good, absorbable form like Magnesium Glycinate. Oxide is usually available but is less absorbable and can just make you have diarrhea.
break up the dose thru out the day.
True herbal medicine treats individual people, not disease labels. That said, there are generally some things that are understood to help with IBS, such as the aforementioned (enteric coated) peppermint oil, good quality probiotics/lacto-fermented foods, increasing dietary fiber and decreasing processed/highly refined foods esp sugar, identifying possible food allergies, regular exercise and effective ways of dealing with stress are all key! Especially a wide range diagnosis like IBS with a great deal of variation, a person would benefit greatly from seeing someone who could help find the right herbs/supplements for them specifically. I personally would look for a certified herbalist in my area to work with, at least initially: http://www.americanherbalistsguild.com/

Try acdidopholis!
Pure Aloe Vera (Forever Living is a reliable source of natural Aloe Vera) taken three times a day, no alchohol, not taking anti–infflamatories are you?, these seemed to cause IBS in a relative
Iam sorry I don’t know about this things I can’t help you .
I am an alternative medicinal therapist and an ex nurse. If you go to your health store you can get Physilium seeds, the best is in powder form. It helps add bulk to your stools by absorbing water. They also contain ‘friendly’ bacteria. You should also change your diet. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day. IBS also means irritable Colon. Also you should drink herbal teas.

Actually, a fruit known as mangosteen which is found in South Asia is very fascinating. This natural fruit has more anti-oxidents and over 40 xanthones in it which means that it is the queen of all fruits.
The mangosteen has also scientific papers wrote on it from various universities around the world in the last decade and a company known as Xango has just launched a new health beverage known as, you guessed it, Xango.

for more information. This company actually did more profit in its first year than Ebay or Yahoo.
Its worked for me. If you want me to send you anymore information via post I can do that for you.
Thanks
Paul
I have read most of the answers to your question and have tried most of them too., They did not work for me. A pharmacist who has an interest in alternative therapies told me to try Dr Vogels (used to be Bioforce) Spillanthes drops for candida (which will give IBS symptoms) and Tormentill drops for the diarhoea. The Spillanthes needs to be taken for a long time, but the results begin to show themselves after a week or so (with me anyway). It is a simple and not expensive thing to try. All I can say is it works for me. I had suffered from IBS(?) from the age of 19 to 55 years. I have no connection with Bioforce. Good luck, I hope it helps. PS I have also discovered Manuka honey TABLETS. The NHS uses Manuka honey for treating leg ulcers and other conditions that do not heal well. Apparently it is has anti bacterial properties.
look at the product link on my blog and read up on GI-Pro

Go to http://www.GoXanthones.com and listen to the audio link on IBS by Dr. John Edwards. He will explain how mangosteen juice and the Xanthones that it contains may help you with many health challenges. It will help you build up your immune system on a cellular and molecular level which is the basis for good health. A Super Anti-oxidant!!
To find out more info on mangosteen juice go to http://www.mangosteendiscovery.com. You can order this great tasting juice from that site. It’s all natural, has no known side effects and is fully patented
Acidophilus works great, you will need large doses and a quality brand. This is the healthy bacteria that lives in your gut and regulates everything, it can do no harm to you.
Eat high fiber bread.
Drink peppermint tea…infused leaves in hot water… not from a tea bag.
Lots of water…
peppermint oil
Papaya, and ginger contain digestive enzymes. Peppermint Anise and Fennel oils can be added to warm water and drunk as a tea or encapsulated to calm the digestive tract.
